GREETERS

The Greeter's of Abdallah Shrine is a uniformed unit. The official uniform of the Greeter unit is a single-breasted, black tuxedo, and a standard jeweled fez. The unit will supply the word "Greeter” on the fez. The black opera cape is to be loaned by the unit to parade participants. The informal uniform is a black blazer with gray checked pants. The probable cost of these uniforms could be between three and five hundred dollars. Meetings are held the 1st Friday of each month in the Abdallah Playground.

The purpose of this unit shall be to promote the welfare and goodwill of Shrinedom in general and Abdallah Shrine in particular; to serve the Potentate as his representative at center functions; to greet and make welcome those present; and to give special attention to Novices, newly created Nobles, and their ladies.

A candidate for this unit shall be a member in good standing in Abdallah Shrine, A.A.O.N.M.S., provided, however, he shall not have been a member of any other uniformed unit for a period of (6) six months prior to his application for membership. He must understand that he is expected to fully participate in all Greeter and center activities.

The Greeter Unit has one fund raising function each year - the spaghetti dinner and wine and cheese tasting affair. The proceeds from this activity primarily go to support the Children's Hospitals and the Transportation Fund. The Greeter's also have several parties and a picnic each year. We wind up the year with our annual Christmas Formal Dinner and Dance, which is held at one of the country clubs.

The real advantage to becoming a Greeter is the friendships you develop and the camaraderie within the unit. Our ladies also meet at the same time as the nobles, and, after our respective meetings, we get together for refreshments.

The Abdallah Greeter Unit is a member of the Central States Shrine Greeter Association. They meet once a year during the Central States Shrine Association Convention and the opportunity to meet with other Greeters within the seven state area is very rewarding.

For more information, contact any member of our Unit or call the Unit President listed in the Abdallah's monthly newspaper, "The Playground".
