The Fire Wagons were organized as a Parade Unit in 1973, and have been in continuous service to the Shrine Center. We are authorized a strength of 35 active members; at the present time, we have 25 active members.
The Fire Wagons are a socially-inclined group. We have two pot luck (or catered) dinners each year. We have a wild game dinner each year as a fund-raising project. We also sponsor a carnival yearly. We support other organizations in their good work, i.e., Yoshi Easter Egg Hunt, Escorts Kids Christmas Party. We also sponsor Football Players for the East West Shrine Bowl, and a Queen candidate in the Shrine Rodeo.
Our Fire Wagons are all well used and well maintained. We (the Fire Wagons) are always on the watch for retired or other parade vehicles that can be made to conform to our specifications, so the initial cost can be kept within reason. Initiation Fee to the Fire Wagons is only $10.00, dues are $12.00 per year, and the required insurance this year is less than $25.00 per man. Uniforms are specified in our By laws and Standing Rules. What you spend for uniforms depends upon how much you purchase.
We do not have an appendant organization for our wives, but they are very supportive of our operation, and participate in our activities. If you should join this unit, your wife or lady will not be left to stand apart wondering what is happening; she will be expected to participate in the unit activities with the other wives.
We have our monthly meeting the 2nd Wednesday of each month. You are welcome to come visit with us and we will try to answer any questions that you may have.
For more information, contact any member of our Unit or call the Unit President listed in the Abdallah's monthly newspaper, "The Playground".
