Dear New Noble,

Congratulations an becoming a part of the world’s greatest philanthropy. The Shrine is a great institution, and new Nobles like you assure that our great work will continue.

So why be a clown?? Why not?? The Shrine Clowns are renowned for being among the a best clowns in the world. When it comes to the Shrine units, we are one of the most visible, memorable and active. While a lot of units are only seen in parades and ceremonials, we are sought out by the local community to work and support numerous grand openings, festival, carnivals and parties. Shrine Clowns are known far and wide, and we need members to support the demand.

You don't know anything about being a clown? No problem, 90-95% of all Shrine Clowns had no previous clowning experience when they joined a clown unit. Your training in make-up, costuming techniques, balloon sculpting, magic, skits and clown conduct, are provided free of charge. You simply need to spend the time honing your skills. Cost can be as little or as much as you want to spend. Many clowns start out spending less than $50 for make-up and costume. Your biggest initial expense will be your time in practicing putting on your make-up and sculpting balloons. We all have some natural clown in us, but we have to work to bring that out. Time spent polishing your skills will be your biggest investment, but it is all paid back when you see the eyes of a child light up when they see you as a “Real Clown.”

For the ladies, we have the Clownettes. They work on numerous projects, one of them being the making of clown dolls to send with every child we sponsor in a Shriners’ Hospital.

Come on out and join the fun. Our meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at the temple.
